  • Ms. Weihrer will be attending the Agency for Healthcare Reform and Quality (AHRQ) three-day meeting in Bethesda, Maryland, in September. She will attend sessions in two learning tracks: patient safety and advocacy.

PASSION, PERSISTENCE, AND PERSONAL EXPERIENCE YIELD A POSITIVE PARTNERSHIP IN PATIENT ADVOCACY: An unusual event will take place in New Orleans at the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, October 17-23, where a lay person/patient advocate, Carol Weihrer, will be a lecturer in a two-hour refresher course titled Intraoperative Awareness Best Practices: It’s Not Just Science. After almost twelve years of work educating medical professionals and the public and conducting patient outreach and support, Weihrer will address some of the 15,000-18,000 attendees at the ASA annual meeting.

Anesthesia Awareness embarks on a second decade of bringing awareness to awareness. President/Founder Carol Weihrer says, "I continue to be both saddened and inspired by the people I’ve met through my 11 years working on this campaign and look forward to continuing this important effort until awareness is a thing of the past.” Read the release here.

  • You need to talk about your experience with someone who cares, understands, and has advice and helpful information,
  • You are a member of the media looking for help with your story or story ideas.
  • You are willing to be interviewed by the media about your awareness experience,
  • You would be willing to participate in a research study on any aspect of awareness or it's sequelae,
  • You would like to share your story on a "Listen to the Victims" page,
  • You are an anesthesia provider who is willing to consider speaking in favor of brain activity monitoring,
